(24/09/2014) IABM kicked off thes IBC2014 Show with a packed conference session which included a panel debate with leading industry figures. Discussion focused on the impact that the new era of convergence will have on the technology supply infrastructure.
Chaired by John Ive, Director of Business Development and Technology, IABM, with the main presentation delivered by Peter White, Chief Executive, IABM, the theme of the session was the future of broadcast technology.
Despite the challenges it is facing, the industry has good cause to be optimistic, with both sales and profit growth increasing says Peter White, Chief Executive, IABM. This morning's conference session highlighted the need to support customers in a changing environment and ensure the industry can attract and retain a new breed of talented people.
A lively panel debate, featuring a host of industry-leading presidents and CEOs, followed the main presentation. The discussion delved into the future state of the technology supply industry, the need for future-proofing and the move towards software-based business models. Participants included Charlie Vogt, President, Imagine Communications & GatesAir; Marco Lopez, President, Grass Valley; Ray Cross, Executive Chairman and CEO, Quantel; and Dan Castles, President/CEO, Telestream.
Highlighting one of the key trends discussed during the panel debate, Marco Lopez, President, Grass Valley said Companies will migrate, it's going to happen. Our role is to support customers during migration and make them future ready.
In addition, Charlie Vogt, CEO, Imagine Communications and GatesAir identified the need for new talent The average employee in the broadcast industry is 45 years old he said. We need more purple haired IT savvy people.
