0,000 DAYS ON EAR inspires the creation of the Museum of Important Shit

During the filming of 20,000 Days On Earth, legendary cult musician Nick Cave told filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard about an object that changed his life forever. That object was a piece of chewing gum. Cave recalled attending a Nina Simone performance where things with the singer had been particularly tumultuous backstage; but when she went out to perform, she stuck her piece of gum on the piano and transformed into the goddess that she is. Witnessing this complete metamorphosis affected Cave so deeply that he kept the piece of gum and still has it to this day.

Inspired by Cave's story, content design and creation company Somethin' Else has partnered with Film4 to create The Museum of Important Shit: a collection of ordinary items with extraordinary significance. The filmmakers call it a virtual Museum [that] catalogues the things that remind us of those transformative moments that make us who we are, and unlocks the stories connected to them.

Through Twitter, users are invited to submit pictures of objects that have changed their lives. They should be accompanied by a short explanation and use selected hashtags from the museum's library, which in a way helps curate the submitted content. Users can then browse through content other people have submitted to discover poignant and compelling stories. Forsyth and Pollard will be the main curators of the content, but will also invite special guests to curate themed rooms of the Museum.
