New framework helps broadcasters, streaming platforms, and sports organizations apply AI to live video for monetization, metadata, highlights, and downstream workflows
Wowza today announced the general availability of Wowza Video Intelligence Framework, a new capability that helps media and sports organizations turn live video into structured, real-time signals their systems can use.
Built to run alongside Wowza Streaming Engine, the framework connects live streams to AI inference and enables teams to generate metadata, clips, tags, overlays, and machine-readable events directly from live video. Those outputs can be used across monetization, content operations, editorial workflows, production environments, and downstream automation.
As live video volumes continue to grow across sports, streaming, and digital media, the pressure on teams has shifted. The challenge is no longer simply delivering a stream. It is making what happens inside that stream useful quickly enough to drive revenue, support content workflows, and create more value while the content is still live.
The market is moving toward live video systems that can generate value while the stream is still in motion, said Krish Kumar, CEO of Wowza. Media and sports organizations increasingly need live video to produce usable signals, support monetization, and feed real operational workflows. Video Intelligence Framework gives teams a way to do that inside the live streaming environment they already run.
Built to Shorten the Distance Between Live Video and Revenue For media and entertainment organizations, the commercial value of AI depends on how quickly it can turn live video into something useful.
In many live workflows, the gap between what happens in a stream and what a business can actually do with it is still too large. Metadata often arrives too late or too inconsistently to support effective targeting. Clips take too much manual review and editing to scale. Valuable moments inside live content are often difficult to capture, package, and monetize fast enough to matter.
Wowza Video Intelligence Framework is designed to close that gap.
By operating directly within the live streaming workflow, the framework makes it possible to generate structured outputs much closer to the stream itself. That shortens the path from live event to monetizable inventory, usable content, and downstream business value.
For media teams, that can mean:
richer metadata for contextual targeting and content packaging,
faster clip and highlight creation,
more useful event data for downstream systems,
and a more direct path from live video to revenue-producing outputs.
Designed for the Realities of Live Media Workflows Wowza Video Intelligence Framework extracts frames from live streams, routes them to AI models for inference, and converts the results into outputs that downstream systems can immediately use. Those outputs can include metadata, webhooks, overlays, tags, thumbnails, clips, and other machine-readable events.
Because the framework operates within the live video pipeline itself, the same moment in a stream can support multiple outcomes at once. A single detection can generate metadata for targeting, trigger a clip workflow, enrich content records, surface a production signal, or initiate downstream automation.
That matters in media environments where speed, packaging, and operational efficiency are tightly connected. Teams can move from live stream to usable output faster, with fewer manual handoffs and fewer stitched-together systems across streaming, AI, content operations, and monetization workflows.
The framework also gives organizations flexibility in how they apply AI. Teams can use their own models and tailor workflows to the specific content, business logic, and output formats their operations require. That is especially valuable in sports and media environments where use cases are highly specific and workflows often need to support multiple downstream systems at once.
Initial Use Cases for Media and Sports Contextual Advertising and Ad Break Triggering One of the clearest early applications for the framework is helping broadcasters and streaming operators make live content more monetizable.
Effective contextual advertising depends on having rich, content-level signals that ad systems can use in time to matter. In live video, that metadata is often incomplete, inconsistent, or unavailable early enough to improve targeting or support better ad decisioning.
Wowza Video Intelligence Framework helps generate those signals while content is still live.
That can include:
identifying likely break points,
surfacing sponsor-relevant visual context,
generating metadata for ad systems,
and creating event signals that can be routed into monetization workflows.
The result is a faster path to more targetable, more context-aware live inventory.
Live Content Tagging, Metadata, and Clip Generation The framework also helps media teams create more useful, more monetizable content from live streams.
Wowza Video Intelligence Framework can convert what is happening inside a stream into structured metadata in real time, making it easier to support indexing, search, tagging, content discovery, and downstream workflow automation. It can also help identify and isolate meaningful moments from live content, creating a foundation for faster highlights, more relevant short-form content, and better post-event packaging.
For teams under pressure to create more content for more channels, that can significantly reduce the time and manual effort required to move from live event to usable asset.
Sports Highlights, Scouting, and Analysis Workflows In sports, the framework is designed to help organizations extract the moments that matter from live streams faster and at greater scale.
That can include:
