FINALISTS FROM CHARTER, COMCAST, FULL CHANNEL, SUDDENLINK AND TIME WARNER CABLE TO COMPETE IN IP CHALLENGE AT SCTE CABLE-TEC EXPO 2014

SEPT. 3, 2014 (Exton, PA) The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) today announced that nine engineers and operations professionals from five cable system operators have earned the right to compete in the final rounds of the SCTE IP Challenge, sponsored by Cisco.

Representatives of Charter Communications, Comcast, Full Channel, Suddenlink and Time Warner Cable will vie against one another and against 2013 winner Kenneth Corbett for first prize on Monday, Sept. 22 (5:30 7:30 p.m.) at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014 in Denver. The "Jeopardy"-style final will include questions and hands-on activities designed to test the finalists' knowledge of Internet Protocol technologies and IPv6. All Expo attendees are welcome for free as spectators at the SCTE IP Challenge, which will include food, beverages and live musical entertainment.

The tournament's online qualifying rounds attracted almost 150 registrations. The finalists are:

"The IP Challenge finals exemplify the camaraderie and the competitive spirit that have become hallmarks of the cable engineering and operations community," said Steve Harris, senior director, advanced network technologies program development for SCTE. "We are grateful to Cisco for their continued support of this event and look forward to our exciting final rounds in Denver."

Each of the finalists receives a full-conference pass for SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014. The IP Challenge winner will receive one full-conference pass to Cisco Live and one full-conference pass to SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2015, at which he will defend the IP Challenge title.

Scheduled for Monday through Thursday, Sept. 22-25 at the Colorado Convention Center, SCTE Cable-Tec Expo once again promises to be the leading venue for helping the cable telecommunications industry and its workforce to reduce costs, deploy new services and increase customer satisfaction. This year's event will feature keynote insights from two of the industry's most notable executives: Rob Lloyd, president, development and sales of Cisco, and Mike Fries, president and CEO of Liberty Global.

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014 also will feature other thought leaders confronting technical challenges facing the industry; peer-to-peer interaction and networking; hundreds of hands-on, technology-centric exhibits; an extensive menu of robust and relevant technical workshops; the International Cable-Tec Games; and other events.
