IBC Reflection 2019

IBC 2019: like Christmas, it's months in the planning and then over in a jiffy! Just with a lot less turkey and a lot more turnkey solutions (see what I did there? Yes I can hear the groans).

But in all seriousness my technology takeaway from the show was about that - for a long time we've seen that no solution is an island and that companies need true technology partners to deliver the multi-faceted solutions that media customers require. But now, more than ever I've seen it before, there's been a willingness to work with APIs from different products so that bespoke solutions aren't required. I believe a driver of this has been the cloud and the need to implement S3 workflows. Where products on-prem strongly support the S3 API (such as MatrixStore) it can be integrated with wide range of products. Everyone is talking APIs, integration and collaboration. And, importantly, that includes enlightened creative customers.

Sadly, I didn't witness the collaboration of data sharing via APIs extending to the metadata layer as much as it should be. There are still way too many products with proprietary databases that create a strong vendor lock-in. Leaders against that lock-in mentality who I witnessed included Arvato with their MAM subsidiary VidiSpine.

Something that I want to forget from IBC 2019 (but it's hard to get the image out of my head!) was Pete and Nick (reputedly) meeting Robin van Persie!!

But, more important things you might have missed from Object Matrix were:

We officially announced MatrixStore v4.1

This comes with MatrixStore Vision - an explore tool packed with features and that now supports advanced metadata search, expiring links, partial video restore and smooth video scrubbing

And then there was Sense our storage analytics and statistics framework letting you monitor not just our storage, but potentially your entire storage infrastructure.
