Commiioning Editor: Entertainment Johannesburg

To plan, commission, innovate with and develop a diverse slate of entertainment programmes of exceptional quality within mandate parameters resulting in high audience response and total adherence to mandate, Bring innovative content ideas, trending and new popular culture expressions and programme formats to the Entertainment Unit

Assist with revitalising long-running series

Plan, budget and commission programmes to meet the networks' scheduling requirements

Provide creative input to the networks' planning and the Entertainment Unit's portfolio

Provide creative direction for the networks' output

Take overall editorial responsibility for programmes, and ensure that programmes are delivered as commissioned

Establish and maintain effective relations with independent producers and industry bodies

Liaise with and develop projects, advise and assist in selecting talent and ensure delivery according to contractual obligations with the independent production industry

Advise the independent production industry accordingly and ensure programmes comply with legal, contractual and copyright requirements

Ensure that commissioned programmes meets mandate targets

Ensure that the audiences are satisfied with Entertainment programme offerings

Act as an editor/editorial advisor on programmes for broadcast

Keeping abreast of industry trends locally and in internationally

Cost effective compliance, utilization and management of allocated budget

Requirements:

Degree in Communication/Media studies/Journalism or the equivalent

3 - 5 years' experience in television production

2 Years experience in research, production and development

Strong editorial skills

Knowledge of commissioning processes and the allocation of resources to reach objectives on time and within budget

Extensive experience in popular culture content production (on or off television), format production in sub-genres like entertainment documentary, factual entertainment, docu-reality and docu-soap, music, comedy.

Social media presence and knowledge

A broad understanding of broadcast technology

Good project management skills and experience in managing of projects

Ability to act on research and to understand broadcast trends

Ability to work with clients and suppliers effectively

A keen sense of deadlines is essential

A good communicator, motivator and problem solver

PC literacy is essential (Ms Word, Excel and Power Point)

Ability to work independently and in a team

Must be willing to travel

Valid driver's licence
