Cloud Computing Dominates IBC 04

If you were one of the 55,092 attendees at this year's record IBC, you're probably not the only one who came back with endless scruffy notes, an array of promotional brochures and an overwhelming quantity of branded giveaways. But what did we learn?

For those in need of a new hardware fix, Sony obliged with the launch of the FS7, which the manufacturer said completes its line-up of 4K cameras. Unveiled at NAB in April, Panasonic's new Varicam range was shown to a European audience for the first time.

Cloud has been a big topic on everyone's agenda for the last couple of years and was one of the most talked about subjects at the show. IBC 2014 saw the launch of IBC Content Everywhere Europe, the first in a series of events targeting the changing nature of media through new connectivity. Aframe was offered two speaking opportunities to showcase customer stories and describe common cloud based workflows.

Can broadcasters get real benefit from Cloud Computing?

On Friday, we featured in a panel alongside Adobe, Softlayer and Virzt. David Peto discussed some invaluable lessons on how to get the most value from your cloud adoption. This year the focus of the conference switched from does it work to how can the cloud help my business grow said Aframe CEO David Peto. In both conference sessions questions reverted from cloud security, to vendors use cases. We know that productions and broadcast workflows are incredibly varied, thankfully Aframe's powerful platform brings flexibility to overcome complex challenges and meet tight deadlines.

How Globally Centralised Productions Deliver Award Winning Programming

We were extremely proud to represent the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) on Saturday. One of the biggest soundbites from the show was the way in which broadcasters and post houses need to change in order to move to a file delivery world. By adapting to new mechanisms for interchange, production houses are becoming more creative where it counts in the storytelling and production value of the content. This session featured Arrow Media's Nick Metcalfe who revealed that Aframe:

- Reduced the shoot ratio from 50:1 to 35:1

- Saved 20 weeks in the edit (2 weeks per episode) by getting the footage quicker and by making the editorial decisions before entering the edit.

- Ultimately created a better quality show.
