The position requires a person who is self-motivated and independent and who is prepared to work flexible hours depending on high and low season in the feature film industry. Assists in the development and administers accounting, cost control and budgeting systems to provide records of assets, liabilities, financial transactions; produces financial statements, reports and summaries.
KEYS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Full responsibility and ensuring a smooth operation of the company's financial department;
- Bookkeeping in Pastel (used to be multiple ledgers) : suppliers, customers, cash books and general ledger;
- Statutory returns: VAT, PAYE, and UIF, bi annual PAYE recons and SARS e-filing;
- Producing monthly management reports;
- Issuing & reconciling Petty Cash floats;
- Film budget reconciliation in Pastel and in the film accounting package;
- Preparation of payments (EFT and application for forex);
- Liaising with suppliers to resolve queries;
- Structure the recon process of the production freelancers and check and refine written manual;
- In case of more productions at the same time, 0verview the production freelancers in the recon process and determine if the archiving of the production invoicing is done in a thorough and proper way and establish what is still outstanding and to sign of the petty cash;
- Preparing Intercompany and other General Ledger Reconciliations;
- Preparing of G/L Entries and closing of General Ledger each month, timeously and accurately
- Accounts Receivable and Collection issues - when necessary;
- Documenting of all accounting procedures and participation in revising and updating the General
Ledger. Updating all procedures as they are modified;
- Perform a thorough review of all cash accounts and procedures and develop an effective program for managing cash withdrawals with specific attention to internal controls and timing of reporting;
- Develop and maintain an effective backup and documentation policy with clear manuals that are constantly updated.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Minimum of 5-7 years experience working in accounting and bookkeeping, preferably in the film industry
Proven experience in working in Pastel, Word & Excel for Windows and preferably Word & Excel for Apple Macintosh
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively
Demonstrated ability to work independently, to organize and prioritize work, and to take initiative to complete tasks in a timely manner with a focus on accuracy
Have a systematic work method and attention to detail
Be open to other duties e.g. managing the office
Proven ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
Have the ability to get pro sufficient with new software application (film budgeting and project management software)
Must be fluent in English and Afrikaans
Must have own transport as occasional trips are required
