Goodbye Media Shoots Torn Apart With Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K

Camera goes through punishment of intense water and nighttime shooting to capture full frame footage.

In the water, there is nothing more terrifying than a shark attack. Australian filmmaker Ryan Svirac, founder of Perth based filmmaking studio Goodboy Media, taps into that primal fear using Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K to create his latest film, Torn Apart.

Torn Apart is a dramatic survival film about a couple stranded in the ocean at night after a helicopter crash. As they face external dangers, the story explores their relationship through flashbacks, revealing their first and potentially last day together.

Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K's full frame sensor, exceptional image quality and compact design helped bring this challenging and emotionally charged story to life.

The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K was pivotal in capturing the film's intense visuals, said Svirac. From low light ocean scenes to sunset beach shots, the 6K full frame sensor gave us stunning, cinematic images while handling the toughest conditions we could throw at it.

The film required complex shooting setups, including nighttime water scenes and confined spaces. To simulate open ocean settings, the team shot at a local beach and in a pool after hours. The camera's natural grain and film like quality were perfect for the dark, atmospheric look we wanted, Svirac said.

The camera's compact design also allowed for efficient rigging and mobility in tight, water based environments. It's an incredible tool for independent filmmakers. For its price, the results are extraordinary, added Svirac.

The production budget for Torn Apart was only $400 AUD, yet it includes a helicopter crash, underwater shark sequences, and ocean survival scenes. Svirac utilised his Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro alongside the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K to get the best possible footage when shooting pivotal scenes.

This combination of cameras made it possible to achieve a cinematic look without a Hollywood budget, Svirac explained. If you can't make something look good with these Blackmagic cameras, all I can say is it's not the camera's fault!

Torn Apart will be released on Goodboy Media's YouTube channel and serves as a showcase for Svirac's talent as he prepares for his next feature length project, Deadpoint, a shark survival thriller.
