IABM Conference Highlights Optimistic Outlook, Customer Centric Strategies and Need For New Talent 12 September 2014

While Amsterdam is always bustling, IBC brings a new level of frenetic energy to the city and this year is no different. One of the key themes of IBC is what the future will bring to the broadcast and media industry and in keeping with that focus, we have just concluded our conference session What is the future of the broadcast industry' that looked at the potential impact that the new era of convergence will have on the technology supply infrastructure.

It was a packed session chaired by John Ive, Director of Business Development and Technology at the IABM, with the main presentation delivered by our Chief Executive, Peter White and included a panel debate with a host of key industry figures.

Peter White commented that Despite the challenges it is facing, the industry has good cause to be optimistic, with both sales and profit growth increasing. This morning's conference session highlighted the need to support customers in a changing environment and ensure the industry can attract and retain a new breed of talented people.

A lively panel debate, featuring a host of industry-leading presidents and CEOs, followed the main presentation. The discussion delved into the future state of the technology supply industry, the need for future-proofing and the move towards software-based business models. Participants included Charlie Vogt, President, Imagine Communications & Gates Air; Marco Lopez, President, Grass Valley; Ray Cross, Executive Chairman and CEO, Quantel; and Dan Castles, President/CEO, Telestream.

Highlighting one of the key trends discussed during the panel debate, Marco Lopez, President, Grass Valley said Companies will migrate, it's going to happen. Our role is to support customers during migration and make them future ready.

In addition, Charlie Vogt, CEO, Imagine Communications and GatesAir identified the need for new talent The average employee in the broadcast industry is 45 years old he said. We need more purple haired IT savy people.
