
2013 NCAA Division I Mens Basketball Championship Delivers RecordBreaking Video Consumption Through Second Week of Tournament 45 Million Live Video Streams Across Digital Platforms Through Second Week
Strong Growth in Mobile Live Streaming
NCAA March Madness Live, managed by Turner Sports, continues to generate record-setting video streams and engagement across digital platforms for the 2013 NCAA Division I Mens Basketball Championship. Across online and mobile (tablets and smart phones) platforms, NCAA March Madness Live has garnered 45 million live video streams, up 158% vs. 2012 tournament to date, and more than 12.6 million hours of live video consumed both all-time records across digital properties over the first two weeks of the tournament.
In partnership between the NCAA, Turner Sports and CBS Sports, NCAA March Madness Live is launched from www.ncaa.com/marchmadness, www.cbssports.com and www.bleacherreport.com, and is available via the App Store and Google Play.
NCAA March Madness Live app has ranked No. 1 as the top sports app in the App Store and Google Play over the first two weeks of the tournament. It was also the No. 1 free app across all categories in the App Store during that same time period.
Highlights through the second week of the tournament include:
Live Video Streams
Across all digital platforms, NCAA March Madness Live has generated a record-setting 45 million live video streams through the second week of the NCAA Division I Mens Basketball Championship, up 158% compared tournament to date with 2012. NCAA March Madness Live registered 18.3million live video streams for the entire tournament last year.
The 2013 NCAA Tournament has recorded 12.6 million hours of live video streaming, which represents a 201% increase from 2012.
Across broadband, 5.0 million unique visitors watched live video, an increase of 139% versus the entire 2012 tournament (2.1 million). The mobile app had 3.2 million unique visitors watch live video, up 93% over the entire tournament last year (1.6 million).
Over the first two weeks of the tournament, 106 minutes of live video was consumed per user on broadband an increase of 9% compared with the entire 2012 tournament and 67 minutes of video was viewed per user on mobile (tablets and smartphones), an increase of 59% vs. the complete tournament last year.
Mobile Usage Growth
Mobile usage and time spent viewing continue to increase.
Mobiles share of live video consumption continues to grow over the course of the tournament, increasing from a 43% share on Thursday, March 21, to a 68% share on Sunday, March 31.
Mobiles share of live viewing minutes has also grown during the progression of the tournament, accounting for 23% of viewing minutes on the first day of the second round to 34% on Sunday, March 31.
