LW6 wireless headphones from Lewitt Audio

Uncompressed audio with below 6ms of latency

Lewitt's have just introduced their first pair of headphones which, despite being aimed primarily at studio duties, offer wireless operation. The LW6 Wireless Studio Headphones have been designed with mixing, mastering, monitoring and recording in mind, and are able to offer low-latency uncompressed audio over distances up to five metres.

Transmission is taken care of by Lewitt's new RealSound wireless technology, which is capable of delivering uncompressed audio with latency figures below 6ms. The headphones are supplied with a small transmitter that will accept an analogue signal from a headphone output, or can be connected directly to a computer via USB-C.

The new arrivals feature a closed-back design, but Lewitt say that thanks to careful measurement and tuning, they deliver the sort of performance you'd expect from an open-back model. This means they're equally well suited to tracking duties, as well as mixing or listening without disturbing anybody nearby. a fully parametric five-band EQ allows users to adjust the headphones' response, and it's possible to create custom sound profiles either via a desktop software or mobile app and store them directly on the headphones. Thanks to built-in DSP, no host device or software needs to be connected or run in the background.

The DSP also powers a number of other handy features, including a virtual room mode and mono, Side-stereo, Side-mono and left-right swap monitoring functions. Users can also define a loudness threshold to protect their hearing from high-level peaks, and a pair of buttons with double-press functions offer quick access to up to four individual commands. As with the sound profiles, all of these features run directly on the LW6.

The LW6 can be customised using a desktop or mobile app, but all of the necessary processing is carried out on the headphones own built-in DSP.

In addition to their audio performance, the LW6 are said to deliver on comfort, too. The earcups feature a thick memory foam while an adjustable headband allows the headphones to adapt well to head shape and fit comfortable around glasses. They boast a battery playback time of up to 21 hours, and if you do get caught out, 15 minutes of charging will deliver 3 hours of use.
