PHABRIX adds new feature support to its Sx hand held range with 2K formats and Dolby D and D plus The PHABRIX highly successful hand held test and measurement Sx series has received a boost at NAB this year. Two new options are available providing additional audio support and video format enhancements.

The first of these is support for testing 2K formats adding to the SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI file formats presently available. The formats available include both generation test patterns and analysis for 2K as defined in the SMPTE ST 2048-2:2011 standard 2048 x 1080 Digital Cinematography Production Image FS/709 Formatting for the Serial Digital Interface and SMPTE 428-9 D-Cinema Distribution Master Image Pixel structure Level 3 Serial Digital Interface Signal Formatting. The new option adds to the advanced formats on the Sx range which include 4:2:2 YUV, 4:4:4 RGB and 4:4:4 YUV at 10/12 bit and 3G level A and B making the Sx instruments the most comprehensive support for file formats currently available in a hand held instrument.

The second new option provides support for Dolby Digital and Dolby digital plus. The PHABRIX Sx range already has an option for generating Dolby E audio with meta data adjustment and Dolby E analysis with metering and metadata analysis. The enhanced toolset for Dolby Digital and Dolby D plus will further promote PHABRIX's adoption by both broadcast manufacturers and studios alike.

The new Dolby Digital (AC3) allows analysis of audio program streams composed of up to six channels of lossy compressed audio (mono, stereo or 5.1) that form a single program'. This allows analysis of Dolby 5.1 (with uses all six channels to provide surround sound).

Support for Dolby Digital Plus allows analysis of audio primary program streams of up to 20 channels of lossless compressed audio (mono, stereo, 5.1 , 7.1 up to 13.1) and optional ancillary programs. This allows analysis of programme types such as Dolby 7.1 (with uses eight channels to provide surround sound).

Since the first PHABRIX Sx hand held instrument was released in 2008, the company has dominated the hand held T&M market. Supporting SD-SDI through to HD-SDI and 3G-SDI as standard, the Sx range offers a combined generator, analyser and monitor in the one instrument. PHABRIX has won many awards for its technology and has been recognised for developing eye and jitter analysis at a price point previously unavailable. The new options show further commitment by this innovative British company to its hand held range.
