These are the five most luxurious spas in the world [photos]

25/05/2019

Self-care the buzzword of 2019. How do you fill your cup? We looked all over the globe to find the spas that will offer you the ultimate in self-indulgence.

From Miami to Iceland, here are five of the world's most luxurious spas.

EAU Spa in Palm BeachWith the catchphrase Welcome to the Shrine of Me greeting you as you enter, there should be no doubt that the Eau Spa experience is all about you. They urge you to embrace and give in to your indulgences.

This 42 000 square foot of joyful spa wonderland, describes itself as a grown-up playground where champagne flows freely and delicious cupcakes can be nibbled on. It is a place,

Where gratification and indulgence are not only acceptable, they are encouraged.

EAU SpaIt boasts 19 treatment rooms with customized scents, music and lighting colour. The Self-Centered Garden has dipping pools, hanging chairs, cabanas and a massage bench.

There is a fitness centre as well as Movement Studio with RealRyder spinning, Pilates, barre, and yoga classes.

Its Private Garden Villas offer guests some privacy before or after their treatments. Each Villa has an outside shower, bathtub and lounging area.

A 30-minute facial will cost you about R2400.

Should you really want to splurge then go for the Perfect Day? This is a 30 Minute Body Scrub, 90 Minute Self-Centered Massage, 60 Minute Essence Facial, Classic Manicure and Pedicure, followed by a Hair Blow-Out.

This will cost you about R9600.

The Retreat SpaBlue Lagoon is one of National Geographic's 25 Wonders of the World. The Lagoon formed in the middle of a lava field and soon people began bathing in it believing it had health benefits.

In 1995, after scientific study, the health benefits were confirmed and in 1999 the spa opened.

Surrounded by black lava and grey moss, the geothermal seawater lagoon sits at 39 C (102 F) year-round, making it the perfect temperature for bathing.

The Retreat Spa has two outdoor spaces. The Terrace where guests can take in the surrounding environment from an elevated vantage point and The Steam Cave where guests can take shelter in the earthen chamber of moist heat.

Photo: The Retreat SpaIt will cost you R9000 for four hours at the Retreat Spa. This includes a private changing suite and unlimited access to both the Retreat Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon. You also get access to private changing rooms and skin care amenities.

The spa's signature Blue Lagoon Ritual is also included.

The Ritual is an exhilarating cycle of wellbeing based on the Blue Lagoon's trinity of natural wonders: silica, algae, and minerals. In a spacious sanctuary of three interconnected chambers, you cover your body with the treasures of geothermal seawater, becoming one with the rejuvenating powers of the volcanic earth.

The Retreat SpaShould you prefer even more privacy and opulence, The Lava Cove is for you. The Lava Suite is an ultra-private suite with its own lagoon, on-call chef, masseuse, and yoga instructor.

According to the spa, the 35-metre long sports pool with glass roof and the 12-metre long heated outdoor pool are firm favourites amongst guests. The idea of watching the snow fall on the pines whilst gazing at the Swiss peaks in the distance sounds like our cup of tea as well.

And should you want tea with your day pass it will cost you about R3500 otherwise it is R2800 for a visit.

Alternatively, forgo the afternoon tea after your treatment and head to The Japanese Restaurant, the hotel's one-star Michelin restaurant.

A 90-minute massage here will cost R4500 and a facial R2500 R3500.

the return to a life well lived.

Nihi Sumba The Spa overlooks the Indian Ocean and guests are lulled into relaxation by the crashing waves below.

Photo: Nihi SumbaFamous for its Spa Safari's, Nihi Sumba offers the perfect experience for those who favour adventure and activity without sacrificing any of their creature comforts. Luxurious ruggedness and adventure await should you choose to partake in their NihiOka Spa Safari.

It is a day of adventure and serenity in equal measure.

Guests can take a 90-minute trek through the countryside before being greeted with cold towels, fresh coconuts and full breakfast along a private stretch of coastline. Once fed, guests may choose to relax in their private cliff side suit to digest before selecting their treatments. These range from body wraps, massages, facials to scrubs.

The full day spa safari, with unlimited treatments off the spa menu, will cost you R11 300.

Four Seasons Golden Triangle Tented Camp The tented camp borders Burma and Laos and guests enjoy views of the Ruak River, Burma and the mountains of Laos; or the jungle and Golden Triangle.
