Did you know that North Carolina is the #1 sweet potato producing state in the U.S.? Several CBC New Media staffers found out that factoid and also found out how much the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina means to our community while pitching in to sort sweet potatoes on Friday, February 6, 2015. A group from WRAL.com got together for a team-building service project thanks to an idea and the efforts of NMG Marketing Manager Lisa Jeffries and NMG Digital Sales Manager Chris Weatherly.
The pair looked for opportunities for groups that are not on evenings and weekends. Jeffries reached out to the folks at the Food Bank.
I personally get out there about 4-6 times a year, and they run such a great operation, said Jeffries. It made it very easy for us to jump in as a large group and be really effective, sorting 6,000 pounds of sweet potatoes that were just donated from local farms - that will go to serve 4,500+ families that are food insecure via partner agencies.
Fourteen members of the WRAL.com team participated in the two-hour service project at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina for a two hour service project.

It was a great opportunity for team members to learn more about each other in a non-work environment while giving back to the community that does so much to support our business and jobs, said WRAL.com General Manager John Conway.
With John's support, we've made this a quarterly commitment to get out and serve our local community, so if any Capcom readers know of non-profits that could use large groups of volunteers for hands-on projects, I'd love to hear from them! said Jeffries.
