Smooth migration from WiMAX to TD-LTE-Advanced and up to 4-fold improvement in speed and capacity while reducing the latency by half
Mainstream global technology, smartphones and tablets deliver a significantly enhanced user experience, more revenue and higher profit margins
Espoo, Finland - Nokia Networks is offering WiMAX operators a compelling solution to smoothly migrate WiMAX networks to TD-LTE-Advanced. The company is enhancing its broad portfolio of 1.9 GHz to 2.6 GHz and 2-pipe to 8-pipe TD-LTE radios with the worlds first 3.5 GHz carrier aggregation capable radio, and adding new TD-LTE-Advanced features and required services. With its global service expertise, operators can reuse the majority of their infrastructure* while enhancing their network with new features, capacity and, most importantly, support for the latest smartphones and tablets that will attract more subscribers. Deployment of Nokia Networks Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station for TDD and FDD will allow expansion with FDD-LTE for even better capacity, coverage and roaming benefits.
TD-LTE is now a globally deployed technology with a rich ecosystem, and its convergence with FDD-LTE makes it more attractive for many mobile operators, said Zhang Qi, vice president of TD-LTE at Nokia Networks. Our Single RAN Advanced Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station for TDD and FDD makes a strong case for WiMAX operators** to migrate now and reap the benefits from their existing investment in spectrum, backhaul, cabling, towers and energy. It will also help them be ready for TDD-FDD carrier aggregation***.
The WiMAX to Nokia Networks TD-LTE-Advanced solution**** includes the industrys first 3.5 GHz radio with TD-LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation capabilities, the UL_COMP software for better upload experience at the cell edge compared to WiMAX, and the first Transmit Mode 9 beamforming commercial software for improvement in download. This solution has been designed to help operators increase revenue, reduce costs and make a smooth and rapid network migration*****.
WiMAX operators have invested heavily in infrastructure and spectrum but face declining revenues, said St phane T ral, principal analyst at Infonetics. Given the significant progression of TD-LTE in the last few years, they are eager to upgrade their legacy network. Migration to TD-LTE will give WiMAX operators access to the LTE bandwagon and generate more revenues via support for the latest smartphones and tablets from major vendors. What makes the solution more compelling is Nokia Networks progress from TD-LTE to TD-LTE-Advanced, which is many times more spectral efficient than WiMAX, allowing operators to deliver superior mobile broadband at a lower cost per bit.
A transition from WiMAX to TD-LTE-Advanced requires careful analysis of the operators infrastructure to guarantee the continuation and improvement of service quality. Nokia Networks Global Services enable WiMAX operators to modernize their networks and make a seamless transition to TD-LTE with a turnkey approach.
Nokia Networks will present its WiMAX to TD-LTE-Advanced migration solution at the 11th Global TD-LTE Initiative Workshop in Hinschu, Taiwan, September 17-18, 2014.
