Sky pens five-year exclusive Formula One deal

Sky has secured the exclusive rights to Formula One content from the beginning of the 2019 season.

The deal means that the sport will no longer be shown on terrestrial television.

The coverage is currently shared with Channel 4 after the free-to-air broadcaster snapped up the latter half of the BBC's deal.

Sky Sports stated that the British Grand Prix will be broadcast on a free-to-air basis, along with highlights.

The soon-to-be-launched Sky Sports Mix, which will be available to Sky users without a sports subscription, will broadcast at least two live races per season, as well as variety of Formula One-related content.

Since 2012, we have demonstrated unrivalled commitment to Formula One, offering fans innovations including a dedicated channel and the very best broadcasting talent.

We are delighted that we are strengthening our coverage for viewers even further, with live and exclusive Formula One from 2019 and the chance to watch in UHD for the first time from next season.

We are pleased to support Formula One and look forward to working with them to progress, develop and enhance coverage of the Championship during the agreement.

From the start of the 2017 season, every Formula One race will be shown in UHD via Sky Q, the newly-launched home entertainment system.
