AXIOM Beta: the First Open Digital Cinema Camera Crowd Funding Campaign Launched

We have been working towards this moment for almost 3 years now. We had ups and downs but never got to a point when giving up was any of the valid options. A number of people suggested we should find another, proper job instead, after hearing what we were up to. We managed to build a prototype from a shoestring budget because of a team that has been donating their hearts and souls to get closer to the ultimate goal of putting power with cameras back into the hands of their users. Now its time to rally the supporters. This next step we can only take together with you.

AXIOM Beta is a professional digital image capturing platform for filmmakers, by filmmakers.

4K Resolution with large Image Sensor Diameter for cinematic Depth of Field

Pin-Sharp Uncompressed Full HD 4:4:4 (downscaled from 4K) via three independent HDMI ports at up to 60FPS

Canon, Nikon, MFT lens mounts available (all passive, more will follow)

Real Time Image Processing on Reprogrammable Hardware (FPGA), Dual Core ARM CPU runs custom Linux operating system with components from ArchLinux/Raspian

capture 4K raw still images

maximum flexibility: separate acquisition and recording and choose any external HDMI recorder

two Global Shutter image sensor options available (more options will follow)

smartphone/tablet/laptop remote control of all camera functions, through wireless and wired connections

Who is apertus ?

apertus project was started by filmmakers who were fed up with the limitations of the tools they had to work with every day. Compared to 50 years ago, cameras today are technologically far superior, but at same time a lot less accessible. AXIOM Beta intends to fix that. Full and open documentation, the ability to add new features, change behaviour of existing ones and to use any custom accessories are intended and plausible goal of AXIOM Beta.

The plan is to democratize camera technology and put the power back into the hands of the users. It is a self liberation by creating high end tools that we ourselves loves to work with - fully independent of any of the big established camera corporations. The time has never been better for such a revolution than it is today!
