The heavens-or perhaps more accurately, El Ni o-bestowed the West Coast with a record amount of snowfall this year, and to say the Sierras experienced its fair share would be a gross understatement; much like saying Bobby Brown is a good skier.
The current Sierra snowpack is one of the biggest ever recorded, and the season totals at Mammoth Mountain tell the story. Mammoth recorded 610 inches at Main Lodge and estimate around 800 inches at the 11,053' summit. 246 inches fell in January alone, which checks another box in the record books. So much snow buried the town of Mammoth Lakes that the National Guard had to step in to help remove it.
Meanwhile, atop and above the snow, GoPro/Red Bull athlete Bobby Brown continues his own scripting of the history books. At just 25 years old, Brown already has more X Games medals than hotels have towels, and routinely pioneers new, progressive tricks.
The Colorado native has had no problem using the Sierra Mountains in California as his personal playground in the past, and he decided to celebrate the record snowpack by bombing top to bottom of Mammoth Mountain. With master GoPro filmer Matt Cook in tow, Brown descended 2,100+ vertical feet, airing out everything in his path and punctuating it with a triple backflip on a 70-foot booter in Mammoth's famed Unbound Main Park, all while Cook captured the ride. The unreal video caps off a monumental season for Mammoth, which is also celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Unbound Terrain Parks.
According to Newschoolers and TransWorld SNOWboarding, Mammoth Unbound is currently rated #1 terrain park in the country, and judging by Bobbys video, its no surprise why.
