From 10 to 12 October Durban filmmakers will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours as part of the Durban 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP).

The top film will go up against winners from countries around the world at Filmapalooza in Hollywood Los Angeles, for the title of Best 48 Hour Film 2014.

Registration must be completed by 9 October with a fee of R1 000 payable for entrants. Teams are accepted on a first come, first served basis and once initial registration is complete, they are added to a waiting list.

Key dates:

27 September

Pre-Competition Networking Event

Time: 11h00 13h00

Place: Keyline Graphics, 144 Florida Road, Morningside

Notes: Filmmakers are encouraged to attend this event for important competition information and networking opportunities.

10 October

Kick-off

Time: TBA - Teams to assemble at 17h30 sharp

Place: Campus of Performing Arts (COPA) - 79 Smiso Nkwanyana Road (Goble Road), Morningside

Notes: Genres to be assigned and the three necessary elements (a character, a prop, a line of dialogue), which need to feature in every film will be revealed to participants. Teams must depart before or by 18h45. The competition officially starts at 19h00.

12 October

Drop-off

Time: 17h30pm 20h00 (by 19h30 to be on time)

Place: Campus of Performing Arts (COPA), 79 Smiso Nkwanyana Road (Goble Road), Morningside

Notes: Teams can start dropping off their completed films from 17h30pm. The cut-off time for films to be officially in the running for the competition is 19h30pm. Any films handed in from 19h31pm to 20h00 will not feature in the competition. However, all films will screen at Suncoast CineCentre the week thereafter.

20, 22, 23 October

Premiere Screenings

Time: 20h00

Place: Suncoast CineCentre, Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World

Notes: A panel of judges, consisting of film and video professionals, will judge the movies and award filmmakers in a number of categories.

8 November

Awards Ceremony

Time: 18h00 for 18h30

Place: TBA

8 November

Wrap Party

Time: 21h00 until late
