When the EBU and AMWA launched the Joint Task Force on the Dynamic Media Facility (JT-DMF) at IBC2025, the DMF was largely a concept. Twelve months on, the conversation in Amsterdam was about demonstrations and deployment. MXL, the media exchange layer within the DMF architecture, was present in significantly more products than at NAB. Multi-vendor, DMF-style demonstrations also ran on multiple stands across the halls, including one of the largest on Grass Valley's stand.
The DMF premise is fundamentally a partnership premise: applications from different vendors share compute and exchange media inside the same processing environment. On that model, no single vendor delivers the facility. The value sits in which vendors' tools run together, and how well. The elements of the stack are still being defined, and fully interoperable, replicable software stacks with zero custom integration are some way off. Until then, integration work is what turns a shared architecture into a working facility. And in practice, some level of bespoke integration will always help address specific customer requirements.
For media organizations, the significance is less about adopting a new architecture than about having more choice in how production environments are built and evolved. A DMF approach can allow organizations to combine technologies from multiple vendors without having to replace an entire facility every time a new capability is introduced.
At IBC2026, interoperability was increasingly shown running rather than promised. One survey analyzing IBC2026 product announcements found that integration ranked markedly higher than in its NAB Show 2026 analysis. Vendors are spending more of their words on how their products fit into existing operations.
Grass Valley's stand showed what that looks like at scale. It ran a camera-to-consumer workflow built on DMF principles, with AMPP providing the orchestration, management, media fabric and user experience.
Alliance Partner applications ran alongside and inside it, on a mix of AWS and local compute. The partners included Appear, Calrec, Haivision, Lawo, RT Software, Salsa Sound, TAG Video Systems, Techex, Telos Alliance, TVU Networks and Zoom. The workflow was assembled in days rather than weeks. For the media organisations visiting the stand, that speed was as much the proof as the workflow itself.
IBC2026 therefore marked a shift in the DMF conversation. The question is no longer simply whether a Dynamic Media Facility is possible, but how quickly vendors can make interoperability practical and repeatable. That will depend on open architectures, common interfaces and, critically, collaboration between technology providers.
For Grass Valley, that means continuing to work with the wider ecosystem to make DMF principles usable in real media operations, rather than treating them as an architectural goal in isolation.
