The AfricaMagic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs), an initiative by AfricaMagic (DStv channel 114), in association with MultiChoice and sponsor Amstel Malta, which honours outstanding film and television talent across Africa, opens official entries on 3 September at 20h00 when an announcement will air across all Africa Magic channels.

According to the Daily Sun, Wangi Mba Uzoukwu, regional director for M-net West Africa said, The African movie and television industry is brimming with exciting talent and at AfricaMagic, we contribute to the industry by giving these talents the platform to showcase their art and celebrating their achievements whilst also encouraging them to keep honing their craft.

The 2014 AfricaMagic Viewers Choice Awards categories were as follows:

Best Actor in a drama

Best Actress in a drama

Best Supporting actress in a drama

Best supporting actor in a drama

Best Movie (Drama)

Best actor in a comedy

Best actress in a comedy

Best Movie (Comedy)

Best Make-up artist

Best Costume designer

Best Lightning designer

Best Video Editor

Best Sound Editor

Best Art director

Best Cinematographer

Best writer (Comedy)

Best Writer (Drama)

Best Indigenous Language (Hausa)

Best Indigenous Language (Yoruba)

Best Indigenous Language (Swahili)

Best Documentary

Best Short Film

Best Television series Comedy/Drama

Best Movie director

Best Movie

Best New Media-Online video

Entry for the AMVCAs is free and the closing date for submissions is October 31. Submissions should be sent to: AfricaMagic Viewers Choice Awards, PO Box 2963, Pinegowrie, 2123, South Africa, with attention addressed to the Manager, Local Productions Africa.
