Slovenian mobile operators and internet providers signed a code of practice for user protection 5 january - At the University of Maribor's Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, mobile operators and internet providers today signed a Code of practice for public electronic communication providers aimed at user protection.
The code was prepared and coordinated in collaboration with supporters with the purpose of:
improving the protection of users against potential cyber threats that could harm their physical, psychological, or moral development, or could harm them financially;
providing suitable and good conditions for developing usability by providing support to users, parents of minors, and other caretakers;
ensuring safer use of mobile devices, especially for children and youths under the age of 18, and seniors, who are less aware of cyber threats due to lack of knowledge.
The code is an upgrade of the existing Self-regulation code of practice for public mobile electronic communication service providers for safer use of mobile phones by children and minors, which was signed by representatives of the Association of Informatics and Telecommunications at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Slovenian mobile operators on 31 March 2009.
The code, which was drawn up in accordance with valid European and domestic legislation, imposes a set of requirements on operators and providers of mobile services to achieve the overall protection of children, ensuring that they use their mobile phones securely.
The code was signed today by Bo tjan Ko ak, CEO of Amis d.o.o., Bojana Prin i , director of the customer support office at Debitel d.d., Ksenija Brajkovi , head of marketing at IZI mobil d.d., Dejan Turk, chairman of the Management Board at Si.mobil d.d., Rudolf Skobe, president of the Management Board at Telekom Slovenije d.d., Ditka Mau ec, director of sales and marketing at Telemach irokopasovne komunikacije d.o.o., Gregor tampohar, CEO of Tu mobil d.o.o., Sa o Todorovi , chairman of the Management Board at T-2 d.o.o.
The parties signing the Code:
state that they are socially responsible parties that recognize the need to protect users from harmful content that could harm their physical, psychological, or moral development;
are aware that achieving the Code's goals requires their collaboration with government and non-governmental organizations, as well as other consumer protection organizations;
recognize the need to support parents and other caretakers in providing the safer use of public electronic communications for children and minors under 18, the elderly, and the less educated;
will meet annually for evaluation to ensure the Code is being implemented properly.
The parties signing the Code, who manage its content, assume the responsibility for its implementation and undertake to adopt appropriate measures for achieving the goals laid down in the Code within their technical capabilities and available assets. Since operators can only control their own content, they assume full responsibility only for this content. The parties signing this Code will strive to ensure that their content is in accordance with the guidelines adopted in the Code, and that it does not contain any discriminatory elements.
The signing of the Code is also welcomed and actively supported by institutions which are actively working in the field of providing internet safety and security, protecting children and minors who use the internet and other technologies, and working towards reducing the amount of unlawful content online, namely: APEK, the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia ARNES, Center for safer internet SAFE.SI, Information Commissioner, University of Maribor, Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, and the Association of Informatics and Telecommunication.
