HP ProBooks: Best in Class for Maine School DistrictsHP to provide personal computers and services for Maine's Learning Technology Initiative

PALO ALTO, Calif. HP today said it was awarded a four-year contract by the Maine Department of Education to provide students and teachers a technology solution to prepare the next generation's workforce.

The HP ProBook 4440, running Microsoft Windows software, will be available as the primary technology and learning solution for the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MTLI). Selecting HP for the primary technology and learning solution ends the state's long-standing exclusive contract with Apple, which began in 2002.

The MLTI began with a vision of former Governor Angus King to prepare Maine's students for a rapidly changing world. A key focus of the program is 1:1 learning, where each child is equipped with his or her own computing device. The right resources empower each child to be career- and college-ready.

It is important that our students are using technology that they will see and use in the workplace, said Maine Governor Paul R. LePage. The laptops use an operating system that is commonly used in the workplace in Maine. These laptops will provide students with the opportunity to enhance their learning and give them experience on the same technology and software they will see in their future careers.

HP will provide a development specialist, instructional workshops, technical workshops and an active portal that will be a one-stop shop for all professional development resources for any educator in the state.
