Daedelus Joins Berklee Electronic Production and Design Department

Daedelus, the boundary-pushing artist, DJ, and producer, will join Berklees Electronic Production and Design Department this fall as a founding faculty member of the colleges electronic digital instrument (EDI) program.

Created for musicians who perform digital instruments live in real time, Berklees EDI program welcomes its first class in September.

Daedelus, also known as Alfred Darlington, grew up in Santa Monica, California, and has been active in the Los Angeles music scene for two decades. A teenage obsession with Greek mythology led him to adopt his stage name-a tribute to the storied artist, inventor, and craftsman.

In 1999 he started DJing Entropy Sessions on Dublab.com and began dropping in his own early demo productions. After hearing his sets, Carlos Ni o (of Ammoncontact) featured Daedelus tracks on two influential compilations, which led to Plug Research releasing Daedeluss debut album, Invention, in 2002. From there, he put out a number of additional albums and EPs in quick succession, cementing his status as one of the most creative and in-demand collaborators in Los Angeles.

In addition to high-profile work with Diplo, Death Cab for Cutie, Flying Lotus, Kimbra, and Saul Williams, Daedelus has produced a wide range of LPs, EPs, and remixes, including projects for labels such as Ninja Tune, Brainfeeder, and Anticon. He continues to produce and create his own music while touring the world.

It is an honor to welcome Deadelus to the Berklee faculty in this important new program for students using EDIs, said Michael Bierylo, chair of the Electronic Production and Design Department. We look forward to the experience, innovation, passion, and soul that he will bring to the campus through his dynamic teaching.
