It's Giving Tuesday and if you or your company is considering making a donation (or multiple donations to various causes) please consider the Sports Broadcasting Fund, a 501 (c)(3) that this year has distributed more than $350,000 to those in need, including more than $100,000 to sports production industry professionals impacted by Hurricane Helene, the flooding in North Carolina, and even two professionals in Valencia, Spain.

Our main fundraiser during the year are the ticket and table sales for the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame, says Ken Kerschbaumer, Sports Broadcasting Fund, secretary and SVG co-executive director. But each year the reach of the Fund continues to expand which means we are under more pressure to ensure we have the financial wherewithal to meet those growing demands. That is where personal and corporate giving can play a vital role.

The Fund, established in 2012 by the Sports Video Group, offers financial support for industry professionals who find themselves in a difficult financial spot due to calamity, illness, injury, or loss of life. Our goal is simple: to be available as a first responder and to quickly help those we help pay bills so that recipients can stretch their own cash reserves so that stress related to financial challenges are not piled onto an already stressful situation.

The situation with the storms is a perfect example of our efforts as we have stepped in to help with the cost of repairs and replacing furniture that might have been damaged and destroyed, adds Kerschbaumer.

Adds Ken Aagaard, Sports Broadcasting Fund, president: When we started the Fund in 2012 it was in response to a true tragedy, the death of a CBS cameraman, Jeremy Schultz, in a house fire. To see how far the Fund has come since then is inspiring as we continue to make a huge difference in the lives of sports production professionals and their families each and every day.

This year the fund has also helped pay for living expenses of freelancers who are recovering from surgery or battling cancer and find themselves unable to physically work. By ensuring they have a roof over their heads and other life needs fulfilled they can better focus their energy on recovery and well being.
