Indy Week Readers Vote CBC Into 2017 Best List

Indy Week released their Best of the Triangle 2017 winners in the first week of June, and several CBC personalities and entities made the list. Indy Week readers voted to determine the category winners and finalists.

This is, bar none, the most comprehensive guide to the coolest local stuff out there, imitators be damned, reported Indy Week. And thats because it pulls from the collective wisdom of tens of thousands of readers casting hundreds of thousands of votes.

WRAL-TV swept the Best Local TV Newsperson with both the winner and all finalists coming from the Big 5.

And the CBC winners are:

Best Outdoor Music Venue

Finalist: American Tobacco Campus

Best Place to People Watch

Finalists: Durham Bulls game, American Tobacco Campus

Best Local-Interest Website

Finalist: WRAL.com

Best Local TV Newsperson

Winner: Debra Morgan

Finalists: Renee Chou, David Crabtree, Laura Leslie

Best Local TV Weatherperson

Winner: Greg Fishel

Finalist: Elizabeth Gardner

Greg Fishel has been a meteorological fixture at WRAL-TV since 1981, and in that time, hes become a rightly cherished local figure, leading us through rain, snow, sleet, hail, hurricanes, and sunshine. Hes affable, warm, and unafraid to let his geek flag fly. And Fishel hasnt seemed to let the acclaim get to his head one winter, when he incorrectly predicted snow, he donned a tropical shirt, shorts, and a lei, and took a seat in WRALs chilly fountain. In recent years, Fishel has become a vocal proponent of recognizing the impacts humans have on global climates. Fishel has a tough job thats made even tougher by armchair weather-guessers, but its clearly one he loves.
