Berklee to Host Showcase of Electronic Digital Instruments on October 30

Berklee will celebrate some of the college's finest student electronic digital instrument (EDI) performers with a host of special guests in a Signature Series concert on Tuesday, October 30, at 8:00 p.m. Innovate: The Berklee Electronic Digital Instrument will showcase the EDI, which will become a principal instrument for Berklee students starting in 2019. The inclusion of an EDI as a principal instrument at Berklee recognizes the central role that computers play in all types of music-making throughout a wide variety of musical settings.

Learn more about selecting an EDI as your principal instrument. The performance will feature a group of luminaries in the world of EDIs. Laura Escud is an artist, innovator, entrepreneur, and live show designer who has released a number of albums featuring EDIs under the name Alluxe. Rachel Z is a Grammy Award-winning jazz artist who has collaborated with legends such as Wayne Shorter and Najee, in addition to her performances with EDIs. Thavius Beck is a musician, producer, emcee, and electronic music educator who has collaborated with hip-hop and rock legends. Moldover is a DJ and innovator behind various EDIs including the Mojo, and has bridged traditional musicianship with electronic music culture. Dan Freeman, a member of the art collective Comandante Zero (C ), developed techniques for fusing live acoustic instruments with laptops running Ableton Live. dolltr!ck, the moniker of Claire Lim B.M. '18, is a multi-instrumentalist and electronic musician who uses synths, drum machines, and more to engage her audience.

Our department is excited and honored to bring this unique showcase, the first of its kind at Berklee, to the Berklee Performance Center, said Michael Bierylo, chair of the college's Electronic Production and Design Department. This genre-spanning concert will trace the evolution of EDIs while also shining a light on artists who are taking the instrument into the future-here at Berklee and beyond.

Tickets for Innovate: The Berklee Electronic Digital Instrument are $15-$20 in advance, and $20-$25 on the day of the performance; they are available online and at the Berklee Performance Center box office.
