MIPLAB CALL FOR ENTRIES NOW OPEN

Paris, 16 December 2014 - Reed MIDEM today announces that the call for entries for the fifth edition of the MIPLab competition for video technology innovation is now open.

The only B2B startup competition for tech companies offering TV and online video solutions, MIPLab is an integral part of MIPTV, the world's content market, which takes place in Cannes from April 13-16, 2015.

Tech companies from around the world have until the 2nd of March 2015 to submit their pitches to be selected among the five MIPLab finalists who will battle it out in a public pitch session before an international jury in Cannes.

Submissions are invited from companies working on products to enable the traditional TV and online video industries to better exploit opportunities offered by online and cloud-based platforms, social VOD, monetization solutions, content management solutions, and so on.

Previously known as MIPCube Lab, in 2014 the competition received 69 applications from more than 20 countries, including France, South Korea, the USA, the UK, Swaziland and Chile. MIPLab alumni have a proven track record: 2012 winner Jilion, a Swiss platform which distributes web videos with customized features, was bought by French online video platform Dailymotion; while the 2014 winner, TVTY, subsequently raised $4.5 million from a consortium of investors. Another 2014 finalist, Grabyo, a London-based video sharing platform that partners with broadcasters to allow viewers to legally share real-time clips of their content, has raised $2 million from a global group of sports stars, including Premier League soccer stars Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie and NBA basketball player Tony Parker.

In 2015, the selection process will once again be handled by the innovation agency Fabernovel. Finalists will be announced in mid-March on MIPTV's website.
