Columbus Deploys SeaWell-Conax Multiscreen Per-Session Encryption, Demoed at NAB
Joint solution, deployed by the largest cable operator in the Caribbean, delivers edge-based, per-session encryption
SeaWell Networks, a leader in multiscreen video delivery solutions, today announces a joint multiscreen encryption demonstration with Conax, a global provider of leading solutions for securing multi-device and digital video distribution, at NAB 2013. The unique solution is part of a larger Conax Xtend Multiscreen ecosystem solution that has been recently deployed by Columbus Communications, the largest cable franchise in the Caribbean.

The unique solution is part of a larger Conax Xtend Multiscreen ecosystem solution that has been recently deployed by Columbus Communications, the largest cable franchise in the Caribbean.
The joint solution combines the edge-based, per-session encryption capability of SeaWell's Spectrum Session Delivery Controller (Spectrum) with Conax Contego Unite world-renowned content protection solution. Unlike other solutions that encrypt each video, the solution dynamically encrypts per stream in real time. As a result, operators have more control over each stream to ensure individual subscribers receive the best quality video possible. Conax Contego Unite will ensure consistent content protection across all consumer devices and includes multi-DRM support, ensuring the best suited security solution for each consumer device.
Spectrum's comprehensive carrier-grade platform includes network-side per session management, dynamic repackaging and DRM translation, helping us solve the challenge of delivering IP-video over unmanaged networks, and eliminating the need to multi-encrypt every video file prior to delivery a huge time and cost savings, said Darren Richer, chief technology officer, Columbus.
