Award-winning Sky News correspondent and filmmaker to host tve sustainability film awards

Sky News' BAFTA-winning science and medical correspondent and award-winning documentary filmmaker Thomas Moore will host the 2018 tve Global Sustainability Film Awards together with Fastflow Group. Companies worldwide have until Friday 12 October to enter films about how they are addressing the challenges of sustainable business practice. Winners are announced at BAFTA in November.

Thomas joined Sky News in 1999. From reporting on the Ebola epidemic, for which he won a BAFTA News Coverage Award, to exclusive stories about high medical agency fees, unsafe discharges by hospitals and research showing that the Zika virus can trigger paralysis, Thomas has produced film reports on a multitude of science and medical stories.

In 2017 Thomas wrote, presented and produced Sky News' A Plastic Whale'. The documentary highlighted the devastating effects of plastic on ocean wildlife, after a post-mortem of a Cuvier's beaked whale confirmed its intestines were entirely clogged with plastic. The documentary won the Press Association Award for Environmental Storytelling at the 2017 tve Global Sustainability Film Awards, and the Prince Rainier III Special Prize at the 2018 Monte Carlo TV Festival.

Thomas has led the editorial coverage and direction of Sky's Ocean Rescue campaign, putting ocean plastic on the political, business and social agenda.

As host, Thomas will introduce the shortlisted and winning films at the Awards ceremony at BAFTA, Piccadilly on Monday 26 November.

There's a choice of five categories, all focusing on how companies are addressing the sustainable development goals:

Global Digital Futures celebrates the digital world's positive effect on the environment and society;

Transforming Society is for businesses that invest in the wellbeing of society worldwide;

Protecting the Environment focuses on companies who strive to maintain and enhance our environment;

Reshaping the Economy is dedicated to businesses that are recreating and improving our economy;

Sky: Beyond Plastic is directed towards companies who are combatting plastic pollution in different ways.

The tve Global Sustainability Film Awards are organised annually by the charity tve and are open for entries. The film competition recognises companies and institutions whose films most powerfully portray solutions for sustainability. This year's president is Claudine Blamey, group head of corporate responsibility and sustainability at Sainsbury's.
