NTS 0: End of Part

The first day of NTS featured a keynote on the London Olympics, followed by a series of technology updates and use case presentations.

Almost 100 delegates from around Europe and further afield are in Geneva this week for the EBU's Network Technology Seminar 2012. The two-day event, billed as The Media and IT Rendezvous , has attracted a good mix of users and vendors, creating an excellent environment for sharing experiences and best practices.

The opening keynote, from BBC technology guru John Zubrzycki, was a detailed look at how the organization is addressing the huge challenge of delivering the London Olympics in Super Hi-Vision. This project will bring up many of the network-related issues that broadcasters increasingly face with greater amounts of data to deliver, store and process.

The first session this morning dealt with network technologies in the context of studio production, while after lunch the focus switched to contribution networks and business to business connections. Later in the afternoon a set of three parallel tutorials allowed a more in-depth look at specific technologies, while other delegates engaged in an open discussion about some of the issues broadcasters face as IT-based technologies become ever more dominant.
