Plymouth Marjon University chooses Altered Images for radio and TV facility

Leading technology supplier, Altered Images, has been chosen to supply and install a complete radio and TV facility at Plymouth Marjon University. The new facility will be located on the old BBC South West villa site at Plymouth and will house the latest technology for the university's production and journalism courses. It will feature industry-standard equipment that students are likely to experience in professional studios and newsrooms, with clever media workflows allowing students to focus on storytelling and multi-platform publishing.

Mike Baker, project lead at Plymouth Marjon University, recently met with Tony Gill and Russell Butcher of Altered Images to award the contract for the new facilities, which are targeted to open ready for the new influx of students in September. We will have a radio studio, a live lounge, a 4-camera TV studio with two sets, a TV gallery, a radio newsroom, a TV newsroom, plus a CAR equipment room, Mike explained. The facility has been designed to be fully-integrated, allowing both audio and video to pass between areas, along with the ability to stream to social media. Pete Gibbons, Altered Images' lead solution architect for the project, chose to implement Dante IP technology throughout, allowing Plymouth Marjon University to benefit from this flexible format.

Due to the new facility's central-Plymouth location on the old BBC South West site, Mike Baker hopes to encourage local media organisations to help provide channels for future graduates into the region.
