The 39th Toronto International Film Festival took place from 4 to 14 September and featured a total of 393 films, including 143 world premieres. The award winners were announced on 14 September.

Short Film Awards:

The short film awards were chosen by a jury made up of Franklin Leonard, founder of The Black List; Beth Sa Freire, deputy-director of the Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival; and visual artist Floria Sigismondi.

The Vimeo Award for Best Canadian Short Film was given to Randall Okita for The Weatherman and the Shadowboxer. The award offers a $10 000 cash prize

The winner of the Vimeo Award for Best International Short Film went to Sotiris Dounoukos for A Single Body (Un seul corps). The award offers a $10 000 cash prize.

Canadian Awards:

The Canadian awards were selected by a jury comprised of filmmaker Michael Dowse; producer Jennifer Jonas; director, writer and producer Ingrid Veninger; and film critic Jason Anderson.

The Canada Goose Award for Best Canadian Feature Film was awarded to Maxine Giroux for Felix and Meira (F lix et Meira). The award comes with a cash prize of $30 000.

The City of Toronto Award for Best Canadian First Feature Film went to Jeffrey St. Jules for Bang Bang Baby. The award carries a cash prize of $15 000.

The Prizes of the International Critics (Fipresci Prizes):

The Fipresci prizes jury was made up of president Dana Linssen (Netherlands), Marco Lombardi, Ola Salwa, T lesphore Mba Bizo, Jorge Gutman, Thom Ernst.

Prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI) for Special Presentations was awarded to Oren Moverman for Time Out of Mind.

Prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI) for the Discovery programme was awarded to Abd Al Malik for May Allah Bless France! (Qu Allah b nisse la France!).

NETPAC Award:

As selected by a jury from the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema, comprised of Lekha Shankar, Hannah Fisher and Anderson Le, the NETPAC Award for World or International Asian Film Premiere went to Shonali Bose for Margarita, with a Straw.

Gorslch People s Choice Awards:

For the 37th year, Toronto audiences were able to cast a vote for their favourite film from the festival The Groslch People s Choice Award. This year the award went to Morten Tyldum for The Imitation Game. The award offers a $15 000 cash prize and custom award, sponsored by Grolsch.

The Grolsch People s Choice Midnight Madness Award was awarded to Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement for What We Do in the Shadows.

The Grolsch People s Choice Documentary Award went to Hajooj Kuka for Beats of the Antonov.
