New York singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy will perform an intimate solo show at the Red Room at Cafe 939 in support of her latest EP, Born Yesterday. The show is presented by birnCORE, one of four streaming channels comprising the Berklee Internet Radio Network (the BIRN).
Born Yesterday is a bookend to Glaspy's lauded debut LP, Emotions and Math (ATO Records), which was featured on many year-end lists from prominent publications in 2016, including the New York Times, NPR Music, Billboard, Mother Jones, and more. Glaspy, who attended Berklee in 2007, toured behind the record intensely, playing countless shows throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.
Touring was the catalyst that led to the songs on Born Yesterday. I wrote these songs on the road, in my hotel, on the plane, and at soundcheck, said Glaspy. They were the product of the little time that I had to myself-three songs about different sides of love: love gone wrong, love gone right, and love at a distance. Glaspy self-produced the EP, which frames these love stories in catchy choruses, dark harmony, and her ever-evolving sense of the electric guitar. Her finely tuned ear for production and tone shines on Born Yesterday.
BirnCORE Live Featuring Margaret Glaspy takes place at the Red Room at Cafe 939, located at 939 Boylston Street, Boston, on Saturday, October 20, at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20, with student discounts available, and can be purchased at berklee.edu/cafe939.
The BIRN is a student community and internet radio station at Berklee broadcasting four channels commercial-free, 24/7. BIRN1 features live shows hosted by students playing music of their choosing-radio by musicians for everyone. BIRN Learn features concerts, interviews, special events, and curated playlists from visiting artists, faculty, staff, and alumni. BirnCORE presents live performances and interviews from emerging and established artists, and also records and releases live music from independent artists, giving students the opportunity to operate a label. BIRN Global features programming from Berklee's Global Partners around the world. BIRN's website also features weekly new music picks by the DJs, album and concert reviews, and artist interviews on its blog.
