Haivision has joined the IBC Accelerator Media Innovation Programme as part of the Network Control: Your Connection, Your Choice project, which explores how open network APIs can provide broadcasters with greater control over 5G connectivity for live media production.
The project is led by BBC, EBU, DAZN, France T l visions, GSMA, RAI Italy, RTL Germany, TV 2 Denmark, Vodafone, and Telef nica. Haivision joins participants Neutral Wireless, LiveU, SliceFinity, and Vonage, alongside Academic Partner University of Strathclyde. Proof-of-concept workflows are being developed and tested around major sporting events in Germany and Spain for demonstration at IBC2026.
Haivision is contributing its Falkon X2 mobile video transmitter, StreamHub receiver, and Hub 360 cloud master control solution to evaluate API-driven requests for SIM traffic prioritization under congested network conditions.
We are delighted that Haivision is supporting the Network Control Accelerator project. It's an unprecedented collaboration between leading mobile operators in Germany, European broadcasters, and the vendor ecosystem that will deliver some powerful learnings for both sectors regarding Quality on Demand APIs for live broadcast operations at large scale sports and live events, says Mark Smith, Head of IBC Accelerator Programme. Haivision has been a foundational supporter of the Programme since its inception in 2019, and we have seen some of our 5G projects deliver astonishing, groundbreaking innovation for the industry.
As 5G is becoming the norm for cellular networks to support remote and live production workflows, ensuring predictable and reliable connectivity is becoming more important than ever, says Jean-Marc Racine, Chief Product Officer, Haivision. Through the IBC Accelerator Programme, we are collaborating with industry leaders to explore how programmable 5G services and open Quality on Demand network APIs can enhance live video contribution and provide greater operational confidence for broadcasters in challenging environments covering live sports, news, and events.
