NTAs 2020 longlist vote is launched nationwide

Today (15th October) contenders for the National Television Awards 2020 have been revealed and voting has officially opened.

The power is now in the hands of viewers, as the great British public choose their most beloved TV stars and shows ahead of the special silver anniversary NTAs show with its brand new host.

On 28th January 2020, hundreds of famous faces and thousands of fans will gather at The O2 London for the star-studded extravaganza, presented for the first time by David Walliams.

It's the biggest night in British broadcasting, aired live on ITV - and with the NTAs celebrating its 25th successful year, there are even more surprises than usual in store.

This year, the NTAs has reintroduced the Challenge category to reflect the number of hit shows putting the public through its paces. Newcomers The Circle and Race Across The World will take on established favourites like Love Island and The Great British Bake Off.

It's been a big year for New Drama, with surveillance culture coming under the spotlight in The Capture and a new spin was put on the period drama in Gentleman Jack. Other acclaimed hits in this category include Chernobyl, Cleaning Up, Mrs Wilson, World On Fire and A Confession.

Returning favourites Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders, Call The Midwife, Victoria and Vera are all vying for votes in the fiercely fought Drama category, as is Poldark which saw Aidan Turner brooding one final time on those Cornish cliffs as the series bowed out.

Global phenomenon Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been riding high in the US. Can she now make it a triumphant homecoming with Fleabag nominated for Comedy and Killing Eve for Drama?

Comedy has had a stellar 12 months with a triumphant second season for Derry Girls and massive acclaim for Ricky Gervais's After Life and both shows are among the Comedy contenders alongside Fleabag.

The autumn months have certainly been enlivened by the debut of RuPaul's Drag Race UK which makes the list of shows vying for The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award following its debut on BBC Three. And our favourite Talent Show formats have introduced some fresh twists with The X Factor: Celebrity and Britain's Got Talent: The Champions. Will either have what it takes to beat Strictly Come Dancing?

Can EastEnders or Coronation Street break Emmerdales three-year hot streak in the Serial Drama category?

Can anyone, literally anyone, break Ant & Decs 18-year hot streak in the TV Presenter category?

This year's longlists also demonstrate the growth of streaming services, with record numbers of nominations for Amazon Prime (Good Omens, The Grand Tour, The Boys) and its rival streaming giant Netflix (Sex Education, Stranger Things, Black Mirror : Bandersnatch, The Sinner).
