ViaWest Accelerates Customer Adoption of Cloud Services with VMware Network Virtualization Network Virtualization Helps ViaWest Roll Out New Services with Greater Efficiency, Agility and Control at a Lower Overall Cost PALO ALTO, Calif., April 22, 2013 VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced colocation and cloud service provider ViaWest is using VMware network virtualization to enable faster service provisioning, simplified management and greater flexibility and choice in service options for customers. VMware network virtualization provides ViaWest with a more efficient way of deploying cloud services than traditional hardware-defined networking approaches, leading to lower overall costs and a more consistent customer experience.

We've found it's impossible to effectively run new cloud services based solely on old, hardware-focused networking technologies. ViaWest is one of the largest privately-held data center, cloud computing and managed service providers in North America. VMware network virtualization enables ViaWest to dynamically create virtual networks that are completely decoupled and independent from the physical network hardware. This provides ViaWest with operational simplicity to support new and existing applications in a non-disruptive way, without modification to the underlying network hardware. Network virtualization reduces the time it takes ViaWest to roll out new services, or upgrade an existing customer's specific service offering, from days or weeks to hours. ViaWest has reduced both operational and capital costs by making more efficient use of network resources such as IP addresses, and by no longer being locked in to any single vendor's networking hardware.
