The director and screenwriter of the film Terry Gilliam, who has worked on the project since 1989 points out that "Don Quixote is a dreamer, an idealist and a romantic, decided not to accept the limitations of reality, advancing no matter the setbacks, as we have done since the beginning of the production. We have been working on this for so long that the idea of end of this "underground" film is quite surreal. Any sensible person would have given up years ago, but sometimes the stubborn dreamers win at the end, so I am grateful to all the idealists who have come together to make this dream come true."

The man who killed Don Quixote It tells the story of an old man convinced that he is Don Quixote and that it confuses Toby, an advertising Executive, with his faithful squire, Sancho Panza. The couple embarks on a trip strange, with jumps back and forth in time, between the current twenty-first century and the 17TH-century magic. Little by little Toby, as the infamous gentleman, is spreading of that illusory world unable to separate dream and reality. The story culminates in a phantasmagoric and emotional end where Toby takes over from Don Quixote de la Mancha.
