NAB 2026 SportsTechBuzz in Review: A Look Back at the Big News From 150+ Companies in Vegas

The 2026 NAB Show is in the books and the show once again served up a cavalcade of new tools and technologies for the sports-production market. Here is an in-depth look at the latest news, products, and workflows showcased at more than 150 SVG sponsor companies booths in Vegas.

Amazon Web Services (Booth W1701)

AWS showcased how media and entertainment companies are using its cloud and AI services across content production, global collaboration, and audience engagement. Demonstrations covered three areas: using generative AI to create content at scale for multichannel distribution, connecting global teams through cloud-native workflows, and delivering personalized, data-driven viewer experiences.

The company introduced AWS Elemental Inference, a new AI service for video workloads. Attendees could see the service in action at the Cloud Court Challenge in the West Hall lobby, hear from FOX Sports on how they are using it in production, and explore hands-on demos at the main booth.

Additional programming included sessions at the AWS Theater covering how media companies are applying cloud technology across their operations. The Cloud Court Challenge, AWS Theater sessions, and booth demos were open to all NAB attendees.

Appear (Booth W1531)

Appear focused on how broadcasters and content owners can build live-production workflows as the industry continues its transition to IP-based and hybrid infrastructures. The conversation has shifted from all cloud architectures toward hybrid models combining purpose-built hardware with software and cloud-based workflows.

The company highlighted three areas:

Satellite-to-IP distribution - Appear demonstrated how broadcasters can transition from legacy IRD-heavy infrastructures to centralized satellite-to-IP architectures. The X Platform allows satellite signals to be demodulated, processed, and distributed over IP with reduced rack space, power consumption, and operational complexity.

Remote production (REMI) - Appear enables REMI workflows that support camera ISO backhaul, return feeds, and distributed production environments. AVC and HEVC provide efficient transport when bandwidth is constrained; JPEG XS enables deterministic performance suitable for premium live production. Appear's technology supports synchronization capabilities that allow multiple feeds to remain aligned through compression, IP transport, and decoding.

Hybrid live production workflows - Appear's X Platform provides high-density, deterministic processing for live environments; Appear VX enables software-based media processing across on-premises infrastructure, private data centers, and public-cloud environments.

Also highlighted were two recent additions: the X5 small-form SDI-IP transport gateway and XM control and orchestration software for the X Platform.

BitFire (Booth W2067)

BitFire presented its updated cloud production platform, designed for live and remote workflows as an alternative to traditional setups without extensive upfront capital.

Visitors could sit at a control-room station and test a fully cloud-based workflow. The demonstration featured BitFire's switcher, replay, multiviewers, comms, and audio-mixing tools. The platform uses the company's patent-pending BFTX transport protocol to deliver frame-accurate synchronization with sub-half-second latency.

BitFire released a new licensing and hosting model for its Spark Production Environments. The update gives organizations the option to host Spark within their own existing cloud infrastructure or directly on BitFire's servers, allowing teams to spin up production environments when an event requires them and add or remove replay channels and switcher inputs as needed.
