IBC 2014: Genetic Engineering 2 makes European debut Shared workspace turbocharges Pablo Rio productivity, enabling realtime working at 4K 60p and beyond for all connected systems

12th September 2014: Genetic Engineering 2 made its European debut at IBC 2014. GE2 is Quantels shared workspace solution for multiple Pablo Rio and Pablo PA suites and delivers major productivity, scheduling and workflow benefits.

GE2 is already proven at the sharp end of 4K 60p post production; the system was used in combination with Pablo Rio at the 2014 FIFA World Cup(tm) for the fast-turnaround post production of 4K 60p promos which were delivered overnight to 30,000 Sony Stores around the world and also played over giant screens in fan parks in Brazil. There were demonstrations of the GE2 World Cup workflow - including some stunning 4K 60p images on large screens - on both the Quantel and Sony stands at IBC. GE2 enabled editing work to continue while 4K 60p was being recorded or while file deliverables were being created dramatically reducing the post turnaround time by around four hours per game.

GE2 optimises post workflow. It brings total scheduling flexibility to the post production process, allowing high resolution jobs to be instantly switched or shared between suites so post houses can meet tight deadlines or take on short-notice work. Up to four Pablo Rio systems can share the same GenePool storage, with guaranteed realtime performance on every connected system no matter what each is doing - even when working at 4K 60p. GE2 also goes beyond 4K - offering 6K operation on multiple clients to cater for the new generation of ultra-high resolution cameras.

There is a huge range of potential GE2 configurations, so GE2 systems can be tailored to meet every individual facilitys workflow requirements. For example, GenePool shared storage can range from 22TB supporting a two-suite HD production environment to almost 400TB - more than enough for multiple simultaneous 4K or 6K Red Dragon jobs.
