Thomson Foundation is pleased to announce the dates of its 2013 international journalism course which will be held in London between 12 August - 3 September 2013.
This year, our goal is to help participating journalists become active players in re-defining modern journalism.
Life-changing experience Our summer course, which has proved to be a life-changing experience for hundreds of journalists, aims to equip today's journalists with skills which will enable them to work across any platform, and harness the power of social media.
The four-week course, which will be based at our new headquarters in Londons historic legal district, will combine workshops in cutting-edge multimedia and the latest journalistic techniques with continuing professional development in core journalistic skills.
Participants will have the opportunity to see best practice in the UKs top media houses alongside developing their skills in a series of hands-on assignments.
Lasting friendships The training will be followed by a weeks work placement. Last year our participants joined teams at The Guardian newspaper, the Press Association news agency, BBC Radio and ITN.
The course brings together journalists from all over the world, many of whom form lasting contacts and friendships with their colleagues.
Dan Oloo, a radio journalist from Kenya on last year's course, said:
I've taken in valuable lessons that would normally take a lifetime to experience. The course made this possible by bringing together a talented group, who quickly became friends and formed a collaborative environment that helped me experience a wide spectrum of journalism from a fresh perspective.

Week One: Foundation - Developing core skills in the context of different media
Week Two: Introducing pictures - visual languages
Week Three: New platforms and social media for Journalists
Week Four: Putting on the polish
Week Five: Placement in UK media
Thomson Foundation does not provide scholarships for this course. Participants need to secure their own sponsorship or funding.
