"Palma Ars Acustica", the newly created Award for Radio Art, goes this year to the Lithuanian composer and concept artist Arturas Bum teinas.

The jury, made up of representatives from 11 European Public Radio Broadcasters, took its decision after the final round on Saturday, 27 April 2013 at WDR Broadcasting House. The prizewinning piece was Arturas Bum teinas "Epiloghi - Sei modi di dire Zangtumbtumb", in which futuristic sound visions confront effectful Baroque music. The production was first broadcast on DeutschlandRadio Kultur (Producer: Marcus Gammel). Apart from Jacopo Peris opera "Dafne", Bum teinas refers to texts by Ren Descartes and Luigi Russolo for his Six Miniatures. The jury praised in particular Bum teinas colourful sound worlds made up of vocals, harpsichord and harsh noises.

Bum teinas was born in 1982 in Vilnius where he studied at the Academy for Music and Theatre.

"Palma Ars Acustica" awards 1.000 to the prizewinner and is organized and financed for the EURORADIO Ars Acustica Group by the EBU (European Broadcasting Union). Kulturradio WDR 3 was the host of the Competition this year.

The EURORADIO Ars Acustica Group, the network of European Radio Art Experts, was founded in Florence in 1989. WDR 3s "Studio Akustische Kunst" was one of the founding members. Apart from bilateral coooperations and free international exchange of Ars Acustica productions through the EBUs Music Exchanges, Ars Acustica producers also join yearly for international sound art activities and common projects, such as the "Arts Birthday Parties" broadcast each 17 January via the EURORADIO satellite network.

The 18 works in competition for the 2013 Palma Ars Acustica are being offered to participating European radio stations for use in their broadcast slots devoted to experimental music and sound art.

Two works presented by Czech Radio were awarded Honorable Mentions by the jury: Michael J. Schumachers "The Episodes" and Jorge Boehringers "Wind Icon/River Totem".
