Appear TV's Universal All Screen Picture Perfect Encoding and Transcoding Hardware provides TDC with the Ultimate in Power, Flexibility & Picture Perfect Quality
Oslo, Norway, September 09, 2014 - Appear TV, a leading global provider of next-generation video processing platforms for broadcast and IP television, today announced that TDC, the leading Nordic operator with Pay TV services in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland has chosen the Appear TV XC5000 Video Processing Platform to provide encoding and multiscreen transcoding to upgrade all of its live linear broadcast, including the YouSee cable service, OTT and multiscreen offerings. The Appear TV platform has been delivered, rigorously tested and is now deployed to provide the highest quality picture across 100 linear OTT channels to around 1.2 million TDC subscribers in Denmark and Norway.
When choosing our next generation video compression platform, we were looking for a single, user-friendly platform that would enable us to update our signal processing equipment to offer best in class image quality. This meant that we had to take into account a number of parameters, including video quality, power consumption, ease of integration and operation and the number of switches required to operate multiple TV services with hundreds of channels. Appear TV aced every test, making it easy for us to choose Appear TV video compression for this important upgrade to our video delivery infrastructure, says Mads Arnbj rn Rasmussen, Vice-President TV and Coaxial Technology, TDC.
The evaluation process confirmed our belief that hardware encoding is the only choice when video quality is critical. Additionally, by utilizing the Appear TV Video Processing Platform for broadcast TV, OTT and multiscreen, we now have a single unified system that delivers over multiple carriers to define the video experience on all consumer devices. This unified platform minimizes OPEX, makes life a lot simpler for our engineering teams and provides the best picture quality for our customers, whatever device they are using to enjoy TDC distributed entertainment, concluded Rasmussen.
The Appear TV XC5000 Video Processing Platform This platform is designed to enable operators to deliver professional broadcast services at the highest possible quality. It has a modular architecture, populating the XC5000 (4U) and XC5100 (1U) carrier-grade chassis' with a wide selection of interoperable modules, giving unparalleled configuration possibilities.
A key feature of the XC5000 platform is its ability to accommodate customers' preferred system architectures while reducing complexity. For instance, it is possible to build an entire broadcast system in a single chassis consisting of discreet stages or distributed architectures. Appear TV's deep understanding of the market and close co-operation with operators ensures that the platform has the ability to provide optimal solutions for a wide array of fixed or wireless networks.
The XC5000 product philosophy greatly reduces the cost of ownership and ensures that operators can simultaneously handle legacy challenges and evolve to introduce brand new services.
The award of this contract after stringent in-depth video quality tests is recognition of our strategic position to be a leading supplier of solutions that can deliver picture perfect video content to all screens across multiple carriers simultaneously, said Carl Walter Holst, CEO of Appear TV.
The combination of best-in-class video compression with the industry's most flexible head-end architecture makes the Appear TV XC5000 Video Processing Platform a market leading solution for broadcasters and operators when video quality matters, concluded Holst.
