VP, Global Sales, Gary Rosen describes an expanded product line that enhances the company's sports focus
The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again, says Nicholas Nickleby in Charles Dickens' sprawling eponymous 1839 novel. Pliant Technologies VP, Global Sales, Gary Rosen expresses a similar if less florid sentiment upon the company's reenlistment as an SVG sponsor.
We're happy to be back, he says with genuine enthusiasm. Our new matrix-intercom product line will better fit SVG members. While we know SVG is sports-focused, today, it is as much about the production community, and that's the audience we can now serve with our newest product.
Pliant Technologies' Gary Rosen: While we know SVG is sports-focused, today, it is as much about the production community, and that's the audience we can now serve with our newest product. Rosen is referring to the CrewCom Flex, introduced this summer and showcased at NAB New York 2026 last month. CrewCom Flex is described as the world's first frameless matrix-intercom system and the only complete matrix IP-based intercom solution that converges wired, wireless, and virtual voice communication on a standards-based AES67/SMPTE ST 2110 backbone. It does so, he adds, without the limitations of traditional matrix-hardware frames.
Pliant Technologies is known for its wireless intercom products, and CrewCom Flex gives the company a full wired, wireless, and virtual intercom offering, says Rosen. The portfolio now includes its established CrewCom 900-MHz wireless system, enhanced with an interface supporting AES67 and Dante, and the new CrewCom Flex frameless matrix intercom, which delivers traditional matrix functionality through intelligent main panels, expansion panels, desktop units, and beltpacks without the cost and complexity of a conventional card-cage-based frame. CrewCom Flex also offers the functionality of the wired platform and can be hosted locally or hosted in the cloud, including services like AWS, and Azure
The new platform gives users a more flexible path from wireless to wired and cloud-based intercom while maintaining a common interface across the systems, he explains. And these three components can be used as standalone systems or integrated into one complete system, depending on the customer's needs and what the application requires.
The company also continues to market its CrewCom, headset, and MicroCom products.
Sports Focus, Production Emphasis
Sports will be an area of increased attention with this expanded product line, Rosen says. CoachComm's [headset system] has been the number-one player for [Pliant Technologies] for many years. It is focused on coach-to-coach but also coach-to-player [comms]. We're a leading supplier in baseball and football, he adds, noting that the Pliant CrewCom wireless system was used at the Super Bowl by broadcast-production crews of three different networks. Each ran full systems at capacity without RF conflicts, and just one synchronization cable was required.
The Pliant brand, he points out, is specifically designed for the production community and aimed at the professional user. The on-field cameraman and production team is a Pliant Technologies application.
New CrewCom Flex matrix IP-based intercom solution converges wired, wireless, and virtual voice communication.Scholastic sports have been a longtime staple of the company and will continue to be. We continue to sell a lot of product into those marketplaces, Rosen says. We do see now, on the Pliant side, more and more of those users developing additional production capacity for streaming and for live and even onsite for their video and multiple cameras. We see the production maturing and evolving in the academic space into much higher quality and much better production, even down at the high-school level.
RF Domain
Pliant's family of systems has moved deeper into wireless, where spectrum shortages remain a challenge. But it's an issue with a number of solutions.
Frequency coordination doesn't exist in the way we knew it 10 or 20 years ago, when a specific frequency was allocated and used at a fixed frequency, he says. Our system operates in the 900-MHz range in the U.S. and uses FHSS [frequency-hopping spread-spectrum] technology; we change frequencies every 10 ms, all automatically. With FHSS, we have a unique ability to have separate systems that are independent but are synchronized, so there's no conflict.
Even with that, of course, he continues, we do run into challenges where we run out of spectrum, as does every manufacturer. But we do have some unique abilities to coordinate multiple systems to get our users more capacity. It's what we believe sets us apart.
