In its latest release of the system software for its digital media monitoring products, Bridge Technologies has introduced a completely new way of calibrating the system and automating detailed fault-tracking. Called GoldTS Reference, this pioneering test model simplifies the complexities of ETR290 set-up and dramatically accelerates the diagnosis of changes from the reference standard even those that would not otherwise cause alarm conditions.

By allowing users to take a snapshot' of a correctly functioning stream, GoldTS Reference creates a comprehensive reference against which the stream is subsequently compared. Thereafter, any deviation from the values in the reference is automatically detected and presented in an instantly understandable color-coded display. This means that operator attention is instantly drawn to deviations including those which may otherwise legal' within the parameters of the ETR290 standard for testing digital media streams. Conditions such as time differences in the program guide or a change of language would not be detected and flagged as faults by conventional ETR290 checks, even though they have significant impact on the subscriber.

The ETR290 standard is extremely complex and very, very few people in the industry understand all of its ramifications, said Simen Frostad, Chairman, Bridge Technologies. There are thousands of parameters and data tables to work through, and in the real world operators cannot get a complete grip of all this, especially when setting up large numbers of streams. GoldTS Reference does away with the need to understand and explicitly set parameters for all of the tests, while delivering the most precise and forensic pinpointing of deviations far surpassing the error-detection and alarming capabilities available elsewhere.

Developed over several years of R&D, GoldTS Reference is an innovation that has a direct impact on the operational challenges of scale that operators face. Two of the most time-consuming and often inefficient areas in media monitoring are the calibration of the monitoring system, and fault-tracking. With Gold TS, the time-to-resolve errors is far shorter, allowing maintenance staff to monitor effectively larger numbers of streams, because they spend less time setting up the calibration, and less time tracing and resolving errors. GoldTS Reference delivers lowered staffing costs in setting up and monitoring the services, and higher service quality levels through more rapid resolution of faults.
