YouView announces new CTO

Today, on demand TV service YouView announced that Nick Thexton has been appointed as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Thexton is currently VP and CTO for Cisco's Video Software Solutions group and was SVP and CTO at NDS prior to its acquisition by Cisco. Thexton began his career in broadcasting with time at Thames Television and Channel 4.

Thexton is a senior technical leader with a proven track record in the creation of new video technology for high profile consumer products and services. He has a rich background in software engineering and reputation for innovation through a number of roles involving R&D and major project delivery. Key recent developments include work on cloud-based video distribution to hybrid devices and the development of dynamic ad insertion technology which is now successfully deployed in the Sky Adsmart' programme.

Thexton will join YouView on 3 November.

YouView, which pioneered an easy-to-use TV service that seamlessly combines live and catch up television, has passed well over 1 million connected UK homes in less than 18 months since its marketing launch and has seen industry leading levels of satisfaction and VOD usage. YouView continues to target a long term goal of 10 million connected homes.

YouView has signalled its continued success and growth by recently announcing a major recruitment drive that will expand its technology team by well over 50%. In the next 12 months, YouView will add more than 50 of the best product designers, developers and test engineers to its workforce in roles that will spearhead the next stages of pioneering connected TV development.
