SPAA ANNOUNCES NEW INITIATIVES, NEW PARTNERS AND NEW DATES FOR SPAA FRINGE 2013

SPAA is thrilled to announce the details of SPAA Fringe 2013, set to launch in May at Vivid Sydney and the St Kilda Film Festival. This year's Fringe features two new initiatives the SPAA: Ones to Watch mentorship program and STUDIO Kickstart, your chance to produce a $300,000 TV series with STUDIO, Foxtel's arts and entertainment channel.

SPAA is calling on early-career producers from around Australia to apply for the SPAA: Ones to Watch mentorship initiative. Up to 20 successful applicants will be selected and matched to renowned film and television executives, who will coach them throughout the year on how to develop business networks and prepare their pitches.

Finalists will also be given the opportunity to connect with screen industry executives through a bespoke schedule of meetings at the SPAA Conference in November, to be held 18 21st November at the Crown Hotel in Melbourne. They'll also be profiled by SPAA throughout the year and during the annual SPAA Conference. Applications open on 28th May and close 28th June. SPAA has also teamed up with STUDIO, Foxtel's arts and entertainment channel, on a new production initiative, STUDIO Kickstart. The 20 finalists in the SPAA: Ones to Watch program will be given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to produce their own series with a $300,000 budget.

Finalists will be asked to pitch their fresh and edgy ideas for a new TV concept to be produced and broadcast on the STUDIO channel. The finalist will work with an executive producer from the channel to help them produce the series.

STUDIO is seeking an original concept that celebrates creativity and pushes the boundaries of storytelling and presentation. It must appeal to a 35+ demographic and be relevant to an Australian audience. Finalists are asked to pitch a concept in their choice of format including fictional mini-series, documentary, reality or factual entertainment series of up to 6 episodes. It is anticipated production will take place from January 2014.

Full details of SPAA's new SPAA: Ones to Watch mentorship program and the STUDIO Kickstart initiative will be outlined at a presentation by SPAA and STUDIO at the St Kilda Film Festival on 27th May and at the SPAA Fringe workshop at Vivid Sydney on 31st May. The SPAA Fringe Vivid Sydney workshop will focus on pitching your TV idea and will feature a Q&A session with screen executives from Australia's top production companies and television networks.
