GREG BABINSKI WINS 2014 SCTE INTERNATIONAL CABLE-TEC GAMES TITLE; CHRIS MIRANDA RECEIVES SPIRIT AWARD

SEPT. 24, 2014 (Denver, CO) Representing SCTE Region 9 and the SCTE Central Florida Chapter, Greg Babinski, system technician with Bright House Networks in New Port Richey, Fla., performed the best among the field of 30 competitors and captured the 24th Annual SCTE International Cable-Tec Games title last evening in Denver.

The International Games sponsored by Dycom Industries, CSG International, JDSU, Accedian Networks, CliIntel, Megger, and Trilithic Inc. comprised competitors from the United States, Canada, and Bolivia who had qualified to compete after winning their local competitions. Babinski has been an SCTE member since 2006.

SCTE conducts the popular International Games where technical professionals demonstrate precise workmanship, refined skills, and proper technique each year as part of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo , SCTE's flagship event. Expo 2014 began Monday and concludes Thursday at the Colorado Convention Center.

In the 2014 Games here last evening, last year's champion, Greg Brakefield of Comporium in Rock Hill, S.C., took second. He was representing the SCTE Piedmont Chapter and SCTE Region 10. Finishing third was TJ Diplacido of Charter Communications in Fort Worth, Texas. Diplacido was representing the SCTE North Central Texas Chapter of SCTE Region 4.

Chris Miranda of Comcast gained the distinction last evening of being named the recipient of the fourth annual Spirit of the Games Award, sponsored by CliIntel. Presented in memory of Mr. David Jones, this award recognizes an individual who best exhibits sportsmanship in the SCTE Cable-Tec Games and embraces the learning environment of the Games. Miranda is a network engineer with Comcast in Livermore, Calif., and competed at Expo 2014 here last evening representing SCTE Region 1 and the SCTE Golden Gate Chapter. Miranda also competed Monday at Expo in the SCTE IP Challenge.

The first-place winners of the International Games' seven contests last evening were:

Drop Connection: Joe Cannons, Time Warner Cable, Austin, Texas, SCTE Hill Country Chapter (Region 4)

Cable Splicing: Bob Colwell, Comcast, Portsmouth, N.H., SCTE New England Chapter (Region 12)

Fiber Splicing: TJ Diplacido

MTDR: Greg Babinski

OTDR: Greg Babinski

Meter Reading: Greg Brakefield

Cable Jeopardy: Matt Maddock, Comcast, Centennial, Colo., SCTE Rocky Mountain Chapter (Region 2)

The hosts of the evening's seven contests were: AEA Technology, AFL, CommScope, Corning Inc., EXFO, Greenlee Communications, JDSU, Jones/NCTI, Megger, PPC (A Belden Brand), Radiodetection, Times Fiber Amphenol, and Trilithic Inc.
