Dijon Designs transforms work with ultra-fast fibre broadband in rural Oxfordshire
A design company is transforming the way it works after becoming the first company to benefit from BT's pioneering programme to lay fibre-optic cables to every home and business in the rural UK village of Deddington.
Dijon Designs can now transfer files in seconds that previously may have taken hours, and can manage large renders and graphic file transfers, thanks to its new ultra-fast broadband offering 300Mbps download speeds and 30Mbps upload. The exhibition design and graphics company chose BT Business as its communications provider.
In March 2012, BT announced that Deddington would be the first pilot location for its fibre-only exchange programme. The pilot is exploring the opportunities arising from a possible future fibre-only world in which services over copper are replaced entirely with next generation voice and broadband services running over fibre optic cable. It is a long term programme given that copper based services are expected to be available for many years yet.
Dijon Designs is now setting the pace in the industry with the ability to share desktops and video conference with clients, work remotely with large files, and manage last-minute updates more efficiently.
A secure client log-in will also soon feature on their website, to enable customers to access their artwork files and share them among other agencies. This facility will also include high resolution renders, and walk-through movies.
Simon Baxter, Managing Director of Dijon Designs said: The difference having ultra-fast fibre broadband has made is just incredible. It's changed the way we can work, particularly as our industry is all about sharing large files with clients. Above all, this has allowed Dijon to stay in the lovely rural village that's a pleasure to visit and work from, but have the very best connectivity in the country. Our beautiful location is no longer a barrier to working with customers all over the world.
We are hopeful that the efficiency of faster connections and the ability to use technology such as sharing desktops with clients will bring expansion for us. It will certainly mean we can handle more business immediately and set us up for future growth.
With clients including Barclays, GlaxoSmithKline and Aviva, being able to make last-minute changes quickly and effectively and share visuals, animations and artwork is key to offering a good service and ensuring the success of the business.
David Benjamin, Commercial Director for BT Business said: Our mission is all about making technology work for people, so it's really pleasing for us to hear how our high speed fibre broadband is boosting the competitiveness of local firms and giving them the benefits of big business fibre capability. We know how fast and efficient BT Infinity for business is, and better two-way speeds can help open up new opportunities to connect with customers the world over.
Work on the Deddington fibre-only' pilot scheme in Oxfordshire began in Spring 2012 when Openreach, BT's local network division, began to build the infrastructure. The majority of the roll-out was completed at the end of January this year.
The work at Deddington is in addition to BT's £2.5 billion national fibre roll-out programme. The footprint currently passes more than 13 million UK homes and businesses. It is expanding all the time and due to pass two-thirds of UK premises around 19 million by end of Spring 2014.
